Peak Oil...in the end it's not so bad
C'mon people, peak oil is real and you need to know it. Those that deny it, do you really think that... the oil supply will last forever? Cheap energy will always be available? The government will prepare the world with alternate energy sources in time to avoid mass hysteria? That we wont be killing each other over a can of beans? We will go back to the dark ages sometime in the next 50 years. Now...I am not saying this is a bad thing. Just try and prepare for it...mentally. I think it might be cool to virtually stop all travel, construction, most light sources, food distribution and water supply (all those things require cheap energy a la oil, to work), in favor of local communities working together as humans more for survival and friendship than for personal selfish selfless gain. Unfortunately, this change will happen after some major pains like hyperinflation, financial system collapse, even more wars, and a temporary mad max society. But when it does happen, we'll have back a more simple, rewarding life. Dont give up on your dreams and goals, just be aware and the wiser. Am I the crazy one to be thinking this way?

You're not crazy at all. I think about it all the time. I drive my car and think, 'My daughter will not take this for granted, and neither should I.' My own process of change is slow, but everything I recycle, every over packaged food product or piece of fruit from another country that I *don't* buy, every time I walk my daughter to school, I'm getting ready. Here, with myself, is the only place I feel like I can change at all, unfortnately. But it's a good place to start.
Well, it's really the only place to start. Somehow were going to have to find a way to discuss it with our kids, so they can survive and flourish in a world that will be incredibly different than it is today. They will see the transition in real time, which is a little scary. There will be books (or stone tablets) that will document just how special interest groups, money, and politics ill prepared the world for the forthcoming mess. It could have, and can still be (maybe), avoided.
Don't you be deleting my comments, homo!
yes not to mention global warming, global cooling, Y2K planes falling out of the sky.......Help Im being attacked by killer bees...
Denial...denial
I would never deny that there is a finite supply of oil and that if we keep consuming it that we will one day run out.... Societies that live in fear are more easily governed than those that feel secure.... maybe we will run out of oil next year...maybe it will be 100 years...my comment was to illustrate the history of phony crisis that have been forced on us.... is peak oil real?....only time will tell but by then we will be crapping our pants about something else
